Anak Halal

I had the privilege to watch this movie last night and instead of feeling disgusted which as a matter of fact pretty often especially knowing how low standard, stereotype, unpolished Malay films scripts are but to the contrary Anak Halal proves to be quite pleasing. turns out, this is the most decent Malay movie i ever watched since Mukhsin which i truly adore for the simplicity and spontaneity of the story.

in Anak Halal, the plot revolve around indera putera(farid kamil) and jo(maya karin) together with their partners in crime, all of whom which represent the rebellious group of youngster trying to make their mark in the hustle and bustle of the big city K.L. While i think farid kamil did a good job in this movie, but it was maya who stole the limelight. Her acting seems so natural and she blends well with other cast too. When u look at her, u just wanna keep looking that u hope that she has more scenes to offer. Without a doubt she has that special persona quality about her that some stars lack. Her only weakness is her unrealistic Malay accent, something that is very unlikely to be coming from a girl who u find hustling in a street somewhere but knowing where she grew up and her heritage, she could be easily forgiven. As of fasha, it was a bad decision to be casting her alongside other talented actor. come on, that girl can't even deliver her lines properly. No doubt she looks good in a few screen shots but when paired with maya, fasha just pale by comparison.

As of Anak Halal the storyline is nothing new and the script could be better. The supporting casts as a whole deliver their parts decently well. the directing is a bit weak, and the locations and some shots could be varied a little. But more importantly, for now i think this film provide us hope that the Malay film industry is still breathing. i give it a 7.5/10. That's pretty high for a Malay movie mind u.
